BASKETBALL

REC PLAYERS NEEDED

Mature recreational players are needed for a group that gathers on a Monday-Wednesday-Friday basis at noon in the Kent area. It’s strictly for fun and exercise. More information: e-mail to kknapp@rei.com.

4SLAM ARENA TOURNAMENT

This tournament is open to men and women of all ages. It is scheduled for June 27-29 at the South Sound Athletics gym, 2450 S. 142nd St. in SeaTac. This modified full-court game is 4-on-4 with 8-foot hoops for juniors and women, 9-foot hoops for men, 2-, 3- and 4-point lines, points for fouls, a continuous clock, a no-dribble zone, no free throws, and four points for dunks. KENTLAKE BOYS HOOP CAMP

This camp for players who will be entering grades 2-9 is scheduled for June 24-27 at Kentlake High School, 21401 S.E. 300th St. It will be directed by Kentlake coaches Ron Charrier and Jeff Martin. The cost is $100 thereafter, and includes a camp T-shirt and basketball. In addition to individual and group instruction, campers will participate in 5-on-5 games, hot-shot competition, free throw contests and other activities. KENTLAKE GIRLS CAMP

This camp for girls entering grades 2-9 is scheduled for June 30-July 3 at Kentlake High School. More information: e-mail to coach Scott Simmons at coach_simmons@hotmail.com.

ADVANTAGE CAMPS

WTA HIGH SCHOOL TEAM CAMP

BOATING

KENT DRAGON BOAT ASSN.

The association is inviting anyone interested in paddling a 48-foot dragon boat to Lake Meridian in Kent on Saturdays (before 8 a.m.) and Tuesdays (6 p.m.) through mid October. All equipment is provided, and no experience is needed. Teams meet at the Lake Meridian boat dock. More information: Ted Childs at (253) 630-3657.

CAMPS

GOFAST SPEED CAMP

These four-day camps take place at Kentridge High School, and are open to boys and girls ages 10-18 in all sports. The focus will be on developing speed, agility, quickness, running technique, injury prevention, and linear and lateral movement. KENT ADULT LEAGUE

PUGET SND. ANGLERS MEETING

FOOTBALL

AUBURN RIVERSIDE CAMP

This camp for players ages 7-13 is scheduled for June 30-July 2 from 9 a.m.-noon each day at Auburn Riverside High School. The cost is $25 per day, or $60 for all three days. The focus will be on speed training, footwork, and position-specific drills, with instruction from the Auburn Riverside coaching staff and players. KARNEY’S 44 KIDS CAMP

This one-day non-contact camp for boys and girls ages 7-14 is scheduled for Saturday, June 28, from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at French Field on the Kent-Meridian High School campus. The cost is $75 per camper, and includes lunch, water and a camp T-shirt. Campers should wear T-shirts and shorts, and tennis shoes or rubber cleats only. Instructors will be a group of NFL players, including former Kentwood High star and current New Orleans Saints fullback Mike Karney, as well as local high school and junior high coaches. PUGET SOUND CAMP

This camp is for players who will be entering grades 4-9 in the fall. It is scheduled for June 30-July 3 at French Field on the campus of Kent-Meridian High School. It is a non-contact camp and runs from 9 a.m.-noon each day. It will be directed by Kentridge High head coach Marty Osborn, and the camp staff will include coaches from Kentridge and other area high schools and junior highs, as well as current Kentridge seniors and former players now in college. GOLF

KENT CHAMBER GOLF CLASSIC

The 30th annual edition of this tournament is scheduled for Monday, July 14, at Washington National Golf Club in Auburn. Play goes from noon-9 p.m. Players will be encouraged to dress up in the colors of their favorite college team (within Washington National’s dress code.) SPONSORS are desired. TENNIS

KENTRIDGE SUMMER TEAM

This program is for boys and girls ages 8-18 of all ability levels from beginners to advanced. It goes from June 30-July 28 and will be part of the Auburn Valley Summer Tennis League. It will be coached by Kentridge High state tournament veteran Zack AhYat and his assistants. Individual lessons are available.
