Kentridge High girls basketball coach Mark Champoux recently stepped down from his post after four years with the program.
For Champoux, whose wife is expecting a baby girl in May, the reason to step down was clear — family trumps basketball. The former Kentridge coach has already has two children at home, ages 3 and 12.
Kentwood High’s cheer squads continued their success both at the state and national levels recently.

With a heavy heart, Trevor Roberts stepped down from the helm of the Kent-Meridian High football program late Friday afternoon.
"This ranks as the No. 1 toughest decision I've ever had to make," said Roberts, who spent three years at Kent-Meridian. "I love Kent-Meridian. I love the kids and I am proud of the work we put in. I could not have asked for more from the coaching staff and the administration."

These two teams will meet in a second game on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. at CN Centre.

The Kentwood High boys basketball team was finally able to exhale Friday night at Foss High.
Behind a lock-down defensive performance and clutch shooting throughout from guard Tre Tyler, the Conquerors knocked off Beamer 58-37 in a winner-to-state, loser-out West Central District III game.

It was a ‘bittersweet’ weekend for Kent-Meridian gymnast Nora Keith.
The sweet part came from the fact that Keith, one of the best gymnasts to come out of the school during the past 20 years, brought home a fourth straight medal from the Class 4A state meet at the Tacoma Dome.
Consider it payback.
Kentwood’s Josh Smith scored a team-high 22 points, grabbed 19 rebounds and blocked three shots, leading the Conquerors past Kentridge 74-54 on Tuesday night in a West Central District III loser-out boys basketball game.
They’ve been at the top of the 103-pound state rankings all season long and have taken turns beating one another the last two weeks.
A little more than a week ago, Kentwood’s Ruben Navejas avenged one of the few losses of his prep career, beating Tahoma’s Steven Hopkins 7-4 for the regional title.

Kent-Meridian’s standout 103-pound wrestler accomplished something on Saturday night at the Tacoma Dome that no other member of the school’s program has done during the past decade.
He started the season in pain, but finished it on the podium.
Kentlake’s Sean Cavanagh has endured a gauntlet of emotions this winter, the last of which was joy on Saturday night at the Tacoma Dome, when he accepted a medal for taking sixth place at Mat Classic XXII.
They didn’t quite achieve what they set out to do Saturday night during Mat Classic XXII at the Tacoma Dome.
But the Tahoma High wrestling team certainly put on a show worthy of high praise.
