A little bit of sun went a long way for Kentwood High's Holly DeHart this past weekend.
Dehart, a junior, delivered a big-time show at Edgar Brown Stadium during the Pasco Invitational on Saturday. DeHart won the 100-meter dash (12.25), the 200 (24.90), finished second in the long jump (17-feet-6 inches) and helped both of Kentwood's relay teams finish among the top three.

They started strong, but stumbled late.
Last spring, the Kentridge girls tennis team bolted out of the gate, winning seven of its first eight matches en route to taking control of the South Puget Sound League North Division. Life was certainly good for the Chargers, who appeared destined for a second consecutive SPSL North crown.
She showed last spring what she’s capable of accomplishing on the tennis court in No. 1 singles, advancing to state in her first season of high school competition.

Consider Maddi Varela a quick learner.
Varela, a Kentlake High sophomore and track standout, blistered the oval on March 27 in the 400-meter dash at the Kent-Meridian Invitational. Varela won the event with a time of 59.79 seconds.
The future for the Kentridge High girls track and field team was rather bright at the conclusion of last spring’s Class 4A state meet.

They opened the season with a bang.
If the Kentwood High girls track and field team can finish it that way, the Conquerors very likely will have made school history.
“The girls track team is the only team at Kentwood that has never won a league title,” explained coach Steve Roche. “I have pointed that out to them.”
He’s trying to keep things in perspective.
But it’s hard to fault Kent-Meridian track and field coach Ernie Ammons if he comes off as sounding just a bit giddy these days. The fact is, Ammons is excited. And understandably so as Kent-Meridian is fielding possibly its finest boys track and field team of the decade. A team that is as deep as it is talented.
Glenn Walrond knows the South Puget Sound League North Division is a stacked deck this spring in regards to the boys soccer race.

The future is bright for the Kentwood High boys soccer team.

There’s something to be said about possessing a winning tradition.
Few athletic programs in the state have as much of it as the Kentlake High fastpitch team. Since the school opened in 1997, the Falcons have advanced to the state tournament nine times and either won or challenged for the South Puget Sound League North Division title in nearly each of those seasons.
The time is now for the Kentridge High fastpitch team.
The Chargers enter the season with a senior-dominated bunch plenty capable of making some noise in the wide open South Puget Sound League North Division.
