Seattle Thunderbirds defenseman Shea Theodore was selected by the Anaheim Ducks in the first round, 26th overall, at the NHL Draft Sunday afternoon in Newark, N.J.
Theodore just finished his second season with the T-Birds and had 50 points on 19 goals and 31 assists in 71 games. He played in all seven playoff games against the Kelowna Rockets in the first round and had two assists.
“We are very happy for Shea and excited to see him progress on his way to a career with the Ducks. He is an exciting offensive player and he will be a real force in our league this season,” said T-Birds general manager Russ Farwell from the draft in Newark.
Theodore was a member of Team Canada that won the gold medal at the U-18 World Championships held in Sochi, Russia, from April 16-28. He also was a member of the gold medal winning Team Canada team at the 2012 Memorial of Ivan Hlinka tournament in the Czech Republic and Slovakia last summer.
Training camp for the 2013-14 season starts Aug. 22 at ShoWare Center.
The T-Birds released their 2013-14 regular season schedule on June 26. The home opener is Sept. 21, at ShoWare Center against the Portland Winterhawks.
