The New York Mets chose Kentridge shortstop Kody Darcy in the 39th round of the Major League Baseball Draft this week.
Darcy, who has committed to Xavier University, hit .425 and drove in 18 runs for Kentridge last season.
“Beyond blessed to have been given the opportunity to play professional baseball in the New York Mets organization,” Darcy said in a tweet. “Thanks to everyone who has helped me out along the way!”
According to Mets scouts: “A shortstop with good actions and a strong arm, Darcy looks comfortable at the six and projects to stay there as he ages. While his glove should provide most of the value, Darcy has an open stance and a slight leg kick that could help him unlock some raw power as he builds his frame out. He’s also shown an ability to take the ball to the opposite field.”
Also, the Colorado Rockies selected right-handed pitcher Joel Condreay, a Kentridge product, in the 31st round.
Condreay hit .355 with 21 runs scored and 25 RBI as a senior at Whitworth last season.
