The Kootenay Ice defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 5-1 Saturday night at the Cranbrook Rec Plex in Cranbrook, British Columbia.
This was the final game in a six-game road through the Central Division for the T-Birds. The T-Birds finished the road trip with a 2-4-0-0 record.
The T-Birds return to ShoWare Center for back-to-back home games on Friday, November 18, against the Tri-City Americans at 7:35pm and the Portland Winterhawks on Saturday, November 19, at 7pm.
Kootenay (13-4-1-2) went in front 1-0 19:25 of the first period when Dylen McKinlay scored. Jaedon Descheneau and Jeff Hubic had the assists.
The Ice outshot the T-Birds 9-4 in the first period.
Kootenay made it a 2-0 lead 42 seconds into the second period when Joey Leach scored. Jesse Ismond and Max Reinhart were credited with the assists.
Seattle (7-11-0-0) cut the Kootenay lead to one at 5:58 of the second. Justin Hickman scored a power-play goal off assists from Sean Aschim and Brendan Rouse. Hickman now has a three-game point streak and Rouse has a team high six-game point streak with the points they registered on Seattle’s first goal.
Joe Antilla scored a power-play goal at 15:33 of second to put the Ice back in front by two goals. Reinhart and Elgin Pearce had the assists.
The Ice led 18-10 in shots after two periods.
Brock Montgomery scored at 17:55 of the third period to give the Ice a 4-1 lead. Erik Benoit had the only assist.
Leach added an unassisted empty-net goal at 19:13 of the third to seal the victory for Kootenay.
The Ice outshot the T-Birds 14-4 in the third period and 32-14 in the game.
Seattle goalie Daniel Cotton stopped 27 of 31 shots in his second start of the season. His record fell to 0-2-0-0 with the loss.
Kootenay goalie Macenzie Skapski made 13 saves on 14 shots and his record improved to 3-1-0-0.
T-Birds single game tickets for the 2011-12 season are available online at the T-Birds website and at the ShoWare Center box office. The ShoWare Center Box Office is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday game days at 10 a.m. and Sunday game days at noon.
