Kentwood High School senior Avry Freaney was recently named an Academic All-American by the National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association.
Freaney started her swimming career on the school’s junior varsity team and ended it swimming at the 4A state meet, all while maintaining a 4.0 GPA, coach Sharon Wright said.
“She is an incredible young lady who has high standards for herself,” Wright said of the two-time team captain.
Freaney will attend the University of Washington in the fall.
“Avry will be extremely successful in life and is looking forward to being a Husky,” Wright said.
Out of more than 340,000 students nationwide involved in aquatics, about 2 percent received this honor.
Freaney received a certificate noting her selection as an All-American.
