Graham-Kapowsin crushed Kentwood 49-7 in the Class 4A high school football state tournament round of 16 on Friday, Nov. 12 at Art Crate Field in Spanaway.
Graham-Kapowsin (11-0 record) led 21-0 after the first quarter and 42-0 at halftime. Quarterback Joshua Wood completed 12 of 13 passes for 256 yards and three touchdowns. Julian Mason had seven receptions for 147 yards and a touchdown.
Kentwood (5-5), which beat Woodinville 17-14 in overtime on Nov. 5 to advance to the final 16, scored in the fourth quarter. The Conquerors were the 16th seed in the tournament.
Top-seeded Graham-Kawpowsin plays Bothell in the quarterfinals at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 19 at Art Crate Field. Bothell beat Glacier Peak 49-35 last week.
Kentwood has lost in the opening round at state in its last six appearances, the most recent in 2019 prior to this year’s loss. The Conquerors advanced to the quarterfinals in 2004 before losing. Kentwood won state titles in 2002 and 2001.
