Kentwood High graduate Justin Seiber was named conference player of the week in the Lone Star Conference. The quarterback is in his junior year athletically and his senior year academically at Simon Fraser University, which is about 10 miles outside of Vancouver in Burnaby, British Columbia.
The Red Leaf QB led his squad to its first win of the season last week against West Texas A&M by a score of 46-14. What is significant about Seiber’s performance is that it’s the first time a Lone Star Conference quarterback has thrown five touchdowns this season. The five-touchdown-pass game also ties him for second in SFU history.
It is the first season for Simon Fraser in the Lone Star Conference (previously in GNAC), and because of that, he is the first Red Leaf to win a weekly award this season. He did so in the last week of the season.
In the game, Seiber threw for 283 yards and was 24 of 34 (70.05 completion percentage). The longest pass of his day was 35 yards to Sam Davenport for a first down on third and seven. He also completed a pass to six receivers and didn’t throw an interception in his third straight game.
The Leafs have 12 Washingtonians on the roster this season. Along with Seiber, Simon Fraser has two other players who competed in the North Puget Sound League (NPSL) and are from South King County: Seiber’s teammate at Kentwood and current senior running back Mason Glover, and from Federal Way, Todd Beamer alumni QB Brandon Niksich.
The final game of the SFU season is Dec. 2 against fellow Canadian program,University British Columbia in the 34th Shrum Bowl. The Red Leafs haven’t won a Shrum Bowl since 2010, in which the game was played via Canadian Football rules.
Seiber is a 2018 Kentwood graduate. He earned NPSL Offensive Back of the Year honors in 2017. He threw for 34 touchdowns and more than 3,200 yards and helped lead the Conquerors to an 8-3 record and a Class 4A state playoff berth.
