Matt Hague, a 2004 Kentwood High graduate, has been named the 2011 Indianapolis Indians Most Valuable Player after his outstanding baseball season with the Triple-A club of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Hague batted .309 with 12 homers and 75 RBIs. The Pirates drafted Hague, 26, a first baseman, in the ninth round of the 2008 draft. He also was named to the International League’s 2011 Postseason All-Star Team.
He received a custom-made ring for winning the team MVP award. Hague had hoped to be called up to the Pirates when rosters were expanded this month, but the Pirates did not bring him up to the majors.
