Kentridge High School senior football player Alonso Renteria will be recognized on the field during the Seattle Seahawks vs. Baltimore Ravens game on Oct. 20 at CenturyLink Field after he was named the Seattle Seahawks, CenturyLink, Inc., and KIRO Radio High School Athlete of the Week on Oct. 8 for Week 5.

Renteria was selected based on his dedication to academics, community involvement, leadership and athletic performance, according to Seahawks.com.

He has a 3.7 GPA while working with the College Success Foundation to prepare for college and be the first in his family to graduate high school and attend a four-year university.

Outside of the classroom, Renteria advocates for the Washington College Grant to district representatives in Olympia and was selected to attend the Latino/a Educational Achievement Project Conference where he spent two days learning how to address the education gap among the Latino community. Additionally, Renteria serves as a translator for his family and community, bringing cultures and languages together.

Renteria’s leadership goes beyond the classroom and Olympia. He is also a leader on the football field by constantly uplifting his teammates and helping them perfect their game.

Kentridge’s athletic department also received a $1,000 grant from the Seahawks along with media recognition, tickets and sideline passes to a Seahawks game, a customized football and a customized 2019 Seahawks jersey.

A total of $10,000 will be awarded to high schools over the course of the program.
