Kentridge and Kent-Meridian high schools have hired new football coaches.
At Kentridge, Brett Ogata replaces Marty Osborne, who coached the Chargers for 26 years. He stepped down after a winless season last fall.
Jeff Scott takes over at Kent-Meridian for Brett Allen, who coached seven seasons for the Royals.
Ogata has 22 years’ experience coaching high school football, most recently as head coach at Mercer Island High School since 2009. He was offensive coordinator at Mercer Island before spending two seasons as quarterback coach at Skyline High School in Sammamish. Ogata also had several coaching positions at Lincoln High School in San Jose, California.
Scott has coached football for 25 years at the youth, high school and semi-pro levels. Most recently he was defensive coordinator at Garfield High School in Seattle. He was head coach at Seattle Lutheran High School from 2012 to 2014, defensive coordinator at Evergreen High School in Seattle from 2009 to 2010, defensive coordinator at Seattle’s Ingraham High School in 2008, offensive assistant at Mount Tahoma High in Tacoma from 2005 to 2006 and offensive line coach for Ballard High school from 1991 to 1992. His experience with youth football includes coaching Rainier Beach Youth football (1995 to 1997) and serving as the Fort Lewis Youth Football commissioner (1986 to 1991).
Scott was the defensive coordinator the Seattle Blue Devils semi-pro team from 1996 to 1998, and the head coach and owner of the King County Jaguars (1999 to 2008) and Puget Sound Titans (2008 to 2009) semi-pro teams. He was president of the Kent Predators Indoor Football League team from 2010 to 2011.
While pay hasn’t been set for Ogata and Scott, said Kent School District Athletic Director Dave Lutes, head football coaches in the district typically make $7,786 to $8,205 for the season.
