The Kentridge High School football team canceled a game Thursday, Sept. 9 against Liberty (of Renton) at French Field in Kent due to COVID-19.
“The Kentridge football team had a positive COVID case reported this week,” said Kent School District spokesperson Melissa Laramie in a Sept. 10 email. “After reviewing the close contacts with this individual, we have decided that the team did not have the numbers to field a team to play safely.”
Laramie said the district continues to work with the state Department of Health and follow the directives in response to any positive cases.
Laramie said she did not know of any other Kent sports teams that have had to cancel games.
Kentridge opened the season Sept. 3 with a 46-14 loss to Auburn Mountainview. The Chargers are scheduled to play Sept. 17 at Eastlake High in Sammamish.
