Kentridge High School’s Haley Childress won the 100-yard butterfly at the 4A West Central District swim and dive championships last Saturday – her second consecutive title in the event.
Childress, a senior, helped lead the Chargers to a second-place finish (252 points) behind the Curtis Vikings (326 points) in the meet at the Curtis Aquatic Center in University Place.
With a time of 58.07 seconds Childress, broke the school record in the 100 butterfly of 59.72, which she set in 2013. Childress also finished third in the 50 freestyle (24.99).
Other top finishers for the Chargers included: freshman Grace Gallagher, fourth in the 200 freestyle (2:01.78) and seventh in the 100 butterfly (1:03.39); senior Michaela Childress, sixth in the 200 free (2:05.10); junior Julia Seibel, sixth in the 50 free (25.75); and sophomore Haley DePriest, seventh in the 500 free (5:41.54).
Kentridge’s 200 medley relay team of sophomore Alyssa Miron, Michaela Childress, Haley Childress and Seibel took third (1:55.06). The 200 free relay of Haley Childress, Michaela Childress, Gallagher and Seibel finished first (1:42.85), and the 400 free relay of Michaela Childress, De Priest, Miron and Gallagher came in fourth (3:52.71).
Kentridge was undefeated in dual meets in the 4A North Puget Sound League Cascade Division, securing the division title, and won the league title at the NPSL meet on Oct. 22 at the Hazen Pool in Renton.
The 4A state swim and dive meet is scheduled for Nov. 11-12 at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.

For Kent-Meridian High, freshman Jayda So finished sixth in both the 100 butterfly (1:02.30) and the 100 backstroke (1:02.29), while junior Tatyana So took eighth in the 100 back (1:05.31).
Kentlake senior Katie Beliveau took second (375.25 points) and sophomore Cassie Padilla finished fourth (349.10 points) to lead Falcons in the diving finals on Oct. 27.
Kentridge’s top finisher in diving was senior Margo Mead, ninth with 273.50 points.
