State-bound and unbeaten Kentridge dispatched four opponents en route to capturing the West Central District volleyball tournament at Kentlake High School on Saturday.
The Chargers (22-0) defeated Olympia in four games – 25-17, 17-25, 25-23, 25-15 – to take the district crown and build momentum into this Friday’s state 4A tournament opener against Kennedy Catholic at the Yakima Valley SunDome. Match time is 8 a.m.
Kentridge swept the Lancers in a North Puget Sound League Cascade Division match on Oct. 15.
It is the Chargers’ first trip to state in 17 years. Kentridge is the class 4A’s top-ranked team in the MaxPreps’ Xcellent 25 Writers’ Poll.
Kentridge received solid all-around play from Zaiah Calvin, the NPSL Cascade Most Valuable Player, first-team all-league players Kate Wick and Austin Ibale and Madeline Gooding and Nellie Escandon, who made the second team.
At district, the Chargers downed Puyallup in the semifinals earlier Saturday. Game scores were 25-20, 22-25, 25-10, 25-21.
State tournament matches are all day Friday, with the finals set for Saturday night.
