The Kentridge High boys basketball team advanced to the semifinals at district play last week, while the Kentridge girls fell out after the second round.
The Chargers beat Spanaway Lake in the first round 52-47, and squeezed by Timberline 64-61.
“Both (Spanaway Lake and Timberline) were athletic and they prepped a lot, they’ve given us a challenge this year,” said Kentridge coach Dave Jamison.
The Chargers advances to play Kentwood on Thursday. With a 0-2 record against the Conquerors, Jamison says his team is excited but not nervous because a loss won’t knock them out of a placement.
“The good news it’s only for seeding, if you win you’re guaranteed a regional berth close to home and get a lower seed,” he said. “I think the boys are excited to play them again.”
A Kentridge victory will advance the team to play either Federal Way or Curtis.
“Federal Way is ranked higher and Curtis is quick,” said Jamison. “Both teams are quick, Federal Way is probably a little deeper or a little longer.”
The Kentridge girls took a solid victory over Rogers but then fell against Bellarmine Prep and Tahoma.
Alicia Dugan’s 23 points and three 3-pointers wasn’t enough to support Kentridge in its second regional game against Bellermine Prep. Morgan Gary scored nine points and Ladrea Ford added eight points for the Chargers.
Ford had 10 points against Tahoma, Dugan followed her with seven points. Bobbi Westendorf grabbed 12 rebounds. Ford scored 11 against Rogers. Westendorf picked up 10 rebounds.

Kentwood advanced to the semifinal round of the 4A boys district tournament after winning its first two games. The Conquerors beat Bellarmine Prep 67-59 on Feb. 14 and defeated Thomas Jefferson 77-32 on Feb. 12.
The Kentlake boys beat Stadium 48-47 on Feb. 12, lost to Curtis 64-55 on Saturday and defeated Spanaway Lake 52-47 on Tuesday to stay alive in district play.
In girls basketball, Kentlake advanced to the semifinals in district play with a 63-37 win over Puyallup on Feb. 11 and a 61-48 victory against Olympia on Feb. 13. The Falcons played Todd Beamer in a semifinal game on Wednesday after press deadline.
