Kentlake, Kentwood square off in 4A state semifinal

It will be a high noon showdown for the Kentlake and Kentwood baseball teams at 1 p.m. Friday, at Safeco Field.

The Conks and the Falcons are facing each other in the semifinals of the Class 4A high school state championship tournament. Skyview (Vancouver) and Puyallup are playing in the other semifinal at 10 a.m. Friday. The winners of each game will play in the title game at 4 p.m. Saturday.

Kentlake

Kentlake beat Sumner 9-5 Saturday at Heritage in the quarterfinals.

Jordon Wright threw five innings picking up the win for the Falcons. He struck out two, gave up four runs, three were earned, on seven hits with one walk. He threw 77 pitches.

Dylan Mackie threw in relief giving up two hits, one earned run, striking out one and walking two.

Wright also battered Sumner at the plate along with Caleb Jaime and J.J. Gerarden. Gerarden hit a home run in the fourth to break a 4-4 tie.

Jamie was 3-for-3 at the plate and scored three times. Gerarden went 2-3 scoring once and hitting in three RBI. Wright was 2-3 with one RBI.

Kentwood

The Conks beat Kennedy Catholic 3-2 in the quarterfinals Saturday.

Cole Trotignon earned the win going five innings, giving up two earned runs on four hits with two strikeouts and one walk. He gave up one home run.

Chase Martin picked up the save giving up two hits and throwing two strikeouts.

Trotignon knocked in one RBI on a fielder’s choice. Shane McGuire went 2-3 at the plate with a double, scoring one run and stealing a base. Cade Harris went 1-3 with one RBI.

Last season the Conks took second in state in 2016, fourth in 2013.

Kentwood won the state trophy in 2012.
