Kent-Meridian High School’s Dwayne Alexander, junior, basketball, is the Kent Reporter’s Male Athlete of the Week.

Q: What is your favorite subject in school?

A: English.

Q: What other activities do you participate in?

A: Cars and photography. I also run track.

Q: Person who has helped you succeed the most?

A: My friends.

Q: Do you have a pre- or post-game tradition? What is it?

A: I do a handshake with my friend.

Q: Song you currently can’t get enough of?

A: “September” by Earth, Wind & Fire

“DJ is a two-year varsity starting point guard, who leads the team in points and steals per game. He was runner-up for Defensive Player of the Year for our league last season. He is a captain and one of three players in Running Start. He is truly a student-athlete with a 2.54 GPA. DJ is a great kid, very respectful and works hard, on and off the court. Look for a breakout season from him.

A: Listen to music and drink soda.

A: “Love Lies” by Khalid and Normani.

“Kyla has taken on a new role for our team this year as one of our point guards. She is our leading scorer through the first weeks of our season. She leads our team on the defensive end of the floor in steals and deflections. She always plays with heart.”
