The Kent-Meridian High School girls soccer ended a nine-year losing streak on Sept. 6 with a 0-0 tie against Kentlake at French Field.
The Royals last won a league match in 2002 when they finished 2-13-1 in South Puget Sound League play. The last league tie came in 2003. First-year coach Chris Wells estimates the Royals had lost more than 130 consecutive games against league competition.
Wells was relieved and happy for his girls.
“I really want it to be about the girls,” he said. “The seniors have been through a lot the past four years, and getting a tie is a huge deal for them.”
K-M, 0-2-1 on the young season, plays at Auburn Riverside on Thursday and returns home Tuesday for a 7:30 p.m. match against Tahoma.
