The Tacoma Stars on Monday debuted a new road kit for the club to wear during the 2016-17 Major Arena Soccer League season.
The kit, sporting a dark shade of blue for the base, is adorned with profiles of numerous structures and landmarks that highlight the beautiful and iconic Tacoma skyline. Running along the bottom of the jersey are the State Route 509 Bridge, Mount Rainier, the Tacoma Dome, Narrows Bridge and Union Station.
“With this kit, we wanted put Tacoma front and center to showcase the area we are so proud to be a part of,” Stars Creative Director Tony Canepa said in a media release. “We also wanted to add something new, with the energetic, diagonal stripes, that would be a fitting addition to the classic Stars brand.”
Running diagonally across the jersey top is a grouping of rainbow stripes that were designed to invoke the vibrance, movement, energy and speed displayed by Stars players.
Officially named the “Skyline Kit,” the new road set was worn as a specialty jersey during the 2015-16 season, the team’s first full season in the MASL.
“The new Skyline Kit helps to highlight our home city of Tacoma and showcases iconic places we all love,” Stars Vice President of Business Development John Crouch said. “We utilized this graphic on a limited-release jersey last season and are looking to build on it this year as we continue to evolve the look and feel of what we believe to be one of the best logos in all of soccer.”
Adopting the 2015-16 fan favorite specialty jersey as the club’s regular road kit allows the team to showcase the beauty and history of Tacoma while traveling to cities throughout the United States and Mexico.
In addition to serving as the club’s road uniform set, the Skyline Kit will be worn during select Tacoma Stars home contests this coming season, including the home opener at the ShoWare Center in Kent against Soles De Sonora at 6:05 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 29.
