Noteworthy Names
Stephanie Cummins, Kentridge
Cummins, a junior, brought solid talent to the soccer field and the basketball floor. She was KR’s leading scorer with three goals in soccer, earning All-SPSL North Division second-team honors. She also set the scoring pace for the Chargers during basketball season, averaging 8.4 points per game, and was an honorable mention all-league pick.
Felecia Harris, Kentlake
The 18-year-old University of Washington-bound senior established a new single-season school record this spring with 10 home runs. Although she never fully reached 100 percent in the circle after offseason shoulder surgery, she still led the league in wins (7) and ranked fourth in strikeouts (43 in 44 2/3 innings pitched) and seventh in earned run average (2.82), Along the way, Harris was named the North’s MVP for a second straight time.
Nora Keith, Kent-Meridian
The talented sophomore earned a second straight Class 4A state gymnastics finals appearance on the vault. Keith took seventh place with a 9.35. She also made state on the uneven parallel bars and floor exercise.
Anna McIntosh, Kentridge
The Charger senior racked up 648 assists in 29 matches (7.2 per game/22.3 per match), helping the Chargers qualify for district. McIntosh earned All-SPSL North Division honorable mention status as a setter. She had one outing of 57 assists in a five-game district victory against Emerald Ridge. On the tennis court, she teamed with fellow senior Chelsey White for a second consecutive SPSL North Division and overall SPSL girls doubles championship, as well as a second straight trip to state.
Lindsey Moore, Kentwood
A well-rounded guard, Moore averaged 17.8 points, 7.1 assists, 4.6 rebounds and 3.7 steals per game. The SPSL North MVP, Moore led Kentwood to a third straight state berth and third consecutive league title. This spring, Moore won a district title in the javelin with a toss of 120 feet, 7 inches and took second in the high jump at 5-5. At Star Track in Pasco, she was fifth in the high jump with a personal best 5-6.
Marley Prothero, Kentwood
Some swimmers really can do it all, and the Kentwood High senior has done it in championship form. Last fall, Prothero won her second straight Class 4A state championship in the 200-yard individual medley, which combines all four swimming strokes: butterfly, back, breaststroke and freestyle. She went the distance in 2 minutes, 6.87 seconds. Later in the meet, Prothero earned a bronze medal in the 100 breaststroke in 1:05.85. Both times were good for high school All-American consideration status.
