The Kentwood High girls basketball team put its balanced offensive attack on display Friday night at the ShoWare Center.
Behind a season-high 22 points from Sanda Milovic and solid performances elsewhere, Kentwood made quick work of Kentridge, knocking off the Chargers 76-35 in a South Puget Sound League North Division game.
Milovic’s previous season high was 20 points, which she dropped on Auburn Riverside last month.
Milovic, a 6-foot senior, connected on 10 of 14 shots for the night.
But Milovic wasn’t the only Conqueror (11-3 in league, 14-4 overall) to enjoy a big night.
Kentwood’s Kylie Huerta, the North’s leading scorer at 19.5 points-per-game, cashed in with 20 points while Courtney Johnson and Liz Mills added 10 apiece.
Kentwood jumped out to a 25-9 first-quarter lead and never looked back in the win over the Chargers.
Allison Newcomb came off the bench for Kentwood to score seven points.
Taylor Riley, who came into the night averaging 5.9 points per game, led the Chargers (0-14, 1-17) with 10 points. Megan Merrill added nine points for Kentridge.
Milovic’s hot hand continued on Saturday night, scoring 16 points in a 66-44 win over Auburn. Huerta led the way with 22 points while Mills also added 16.
ELSEWHERE:
• Kentlake 53, Kent-Meridian 38 (Friday): The Falcons, which have struggled mightily in the second half of the season, put away the Royals early en route to the South Puget Sound League North Division win.
Kentlake (8-5, 11-6) bolted out to a 14-6 first-quarter lead and never looked back against Kent-Meridian.
Kentlake’s Morganne Comstock led the Falcons with 17 points while Riley Butler chipped in nine. Comstock, who came into the night third in the league in scoring with a 16.9 points-per-game average, also pulled down 16 rebounds and dished out two assists. Kentlake’s Cody Sisco chipped in seven assists for the Falcons.
Kentlake held Kent-Meridian star Briana Shannon to 15 points on the night. Shannon entered the game second in the league in scoring with an 18.6 points-per-game average.
No other Kent-Meridian player reached double figures in scoring.
With the loss, K-M dropped to 1-12 in league and 1-16 overall.
• Federal Way 51, Kentlake 39 (Saturday): The Falcons remained closed to the fifth-ranked Eagles, but weren’t able to come out on top. Riley Butler and Morganne Comstock scored nine points apiece to lead Kentlake while Cody Sisco added seven.
• Tahoma 74, Kent-Meridian 56 (Saturday): The Bears outscored the Royals 27-8 in the third quarter to put the game away. Tahoma’s Erin McCaslin led all scorers with 33 points.
Briana Shannon led the Royals with 27 points while Desiree Guitian and Aubreyana Anderson chipped in 12 points apiece. Kent-Meridian will wrap up the regular season on Friday against Kentridge.
