Gasparrelli, Demke dart to NHRA Lucas Oil Regional wins

Steve Gasparrelli, West Covina, Calif., and Chris Demke, of Sunland, Calif., captured Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car finals, respectively, at an NHRA Lucas Oil Regional at Pacific Raceways on Sunday.

Steve Gasparrelli, West Covina, Calif., and Chris Demke, of Sunland, Calif., captured Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car finals, respectively, at an NHRA Lucas Oil Regional at Pacific Raceways on Sunday.

Demke covered the quarter-mile strip in an elapsed time of 5.320 seconds at a top speed of 268.54 mph to defeat Johnny Ahten, of Santa Clarita, Calif., 5.562 at 259.11.

In TA Funny Car, the venerable Gasparrelli won on a pass of 5.647 at 258.67 mph to down Shane Westerfield, of Lake Forest, Calif.

Competition Eliminator: Alan Ellis, Mapleton, Utah, 7.294 at 127.34 mph defeated Ralph Van Paeapeghem, Garden Valley, Idaho, foul

Super Stock: Jody Lang, Puyallup, 10.790 at 114.31 mph defeated Kory Alby, Coos Bay, Ore., 11.192 at 113.55 mph

Stock Eliminator: David Jung, Surrey, B.C., 12.070 at 105.18 mph defeated Steve Cozakos, Marysville,11.150 at 114.30 mph

Super Comp: Mike Shannon, Kelowna, B.C., 9.142 at 136.25 mph defeated Michael Dalrymple, Sunnyside, 9.375 at 154.99 mph

Super Gas: David Holmes, Spokane, 9.910 at 148.95 mph defeated Ken Mostowich, Calgary, Alberta, 9.888 at 159.82 mph

Super Street: Steve Lowe, Langley, B.C., 10.927 at 132.95 mph defeated Brian Oglesbee, Veradale, 10.967 at 126.39 mph

Top Sportsman: Steve Downs, Edgewood, 7.589 at 178.61 mph defeated Shawn Herbst, Selah, 7.748 at 177.35 mph

Sportsman Motorcycle: Brian Bognuda, Weott, Calif., 10.692 at 119.35 mph defeated Jon Jenkins, Richmond, B.C., 8.747 at 150.95 mph

Super Pro: Craig Dion, Grandview, 10.562 at 125 mph defeated Ashley Lindsey, Puyallup, 8.894 at 152.33 mph
