Toronto Blue Jays catcher Reese McGuire, a 2013 Kentwood High School graduate, was arrested for “the exposure of sexual organs” in Dunedin, Florida, by the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, according to Torontosun.com and numerous other media outlets.
The incident reportedly happened Feb. 7 in a parking lot outside a strip mall. McGuire, 24, allegedly exposed himself while sitting in a SUV. He is scheduled to appear in court March 17. The Blue Jays spring training camp is in Dunedin.
“He has been in communication with the Blue Jays and we are working to gather more information,” the Blue Jays said in a statement. “Out of respect for the legal process, neither he nor the club will comment any further at this time.”
McGuire made his Major League Baseball debut with Toronto in 2018. He is expected to be the backup catcher this season.
McGuire was drafted in the first round of the 2013 draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was the 14th overall picked and signed a contract that included a $2.3 million bonus. McGuire had received a college scholarship to play baseball at the University of San Diego, but decided to turn pro.
Pittsburgh traded McGuire to the Blue Jays in 2016.
McGuire batted .436 his senior season at Kentwood with four home runs and 20 RBIs. He was named the 2013 Gatorade Washington Player of the Year.
