Kentwood sophomore hurdler and sprinter Emma Pollak is a WIAA/Wendy’s Athlete of the Week winner for Week 35 (May 5-11), the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association announced Wednesday.
Pollak was honored for her performance at the North Puget Sound League track and field championships at Auburn, where she tripled – firsts in the 300-meter hurdles (45.39 seconds), the 400 (57.3) and as the anchor of the winning 800 relay (1:42.66). She also ran on the second-place 400 relay team.
Heading into the district meet, Pollak owns the state’s fastest time in the 300 hurdles (44.11) and has the top 4A time in the 400 at 57.04.
Each week throughout the school year, the WIAA recognizes varsity athletes who exhibited an outstanding performance for the previous week (based off nominations). All varsity level students in good academic standing at their schools are eligible to receive the award. Students may win the award once during any given academic year.
Nominations are open to athletic administrators, coaches, fans and members of the media, with a weekly deadline of noon Tuesday.
