Matt Hague had to wait a little bit longer than anticipated for the second year in a row.
Hague, a 2004 Kentwood High graduate, was selected in the ninth round — 264th overall — by the Pittsburgh Pirates in Major League Baseball’s first-year player draft last Friday.
Hague, a senior third baseman at Oklahoma State University, anticipated being selected in the top five rounds. He was chosen in the 11th round last year by the Cleveland Indians, but was expected to be selected much higher.
Hague recently finished up his senior season at Oklahoma State, where he hit .360 with 12 home runs and 57 RBIs.
The Cowboys were eliminated from the Stillwater Regional tournament last Sunday after falling to Wichita State, 11-7.
Oklahoma State finished the year with a 44-18 overall record.
