Chargers’ rally comes up short in semifinals

Kentridge falls to Lewis and Clark, plays for third place Saturday

Kaylee Bishop scored 22 points to lead No. 3 Lewis and Clark of Spokane to a 64-55 victory over No. 2 Kentridge in the 4A Hardwood Classic girls basketball semifinals at the Tacoma Dome on Friday night.

The Tigers (23-3) play No. 8 Eastlake of Sammamish (21-6) for the championship at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Kentridge (25-3) faces sixth-seeded Bellarmine Prep (22-6) for third place at 1 p.m. Saturday. The Chargers beat the Lions 75-64 for the West Central District title on Feb. 16.

Jordyn Jenkins scored 23 points, JaQuaya Miller had 17 points and eight rebounds for Kentridge.

Lewis and Clark shot 61 percent from the field to build a 32-17 halftime lead.

Kentridge rallied to pull within 41-35 after three quarters of play, but Lewis and Clark held on down the stretch.

The Chargers shot 38 percent from the field for the game.

Quarterfinals

After two painful losses to Woodinville in one year, the Chargers responded in the rubber-game rematch to beat the top-seeded Falcons 55-44 in the quarterfinals on Thursday night.

Jenkins scored 24 points and grabbed nine rebounds, Miller produced 12 points and 14 rebounds and Dayla Ballena finished with 11 points for Kentridge.

Mia Hughes led Woodinville with 28 points.

Kentridge atoned for its only in-state loss this season – a 72-71 overtime outcome to Woodinville in the Eric Anderson Classic/King Showcase at the accesso ShoWare Center on Jan. 21

Last March, the Falcons surprised the Chargers, the defending state champions, 55-54, on a buzzer-beating 3-pointer at the state quarterfinals in the Dome.

But the rematch Thursday didn’t go down to the wire.

Kentridge built a 31-20 halftime lead and maintained it the rest of the way.
