Owen Paznokas scored 22 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as Kentridge ousted Battle Ground 66-54 in the opening round of the 4A Hardwood Classic at the Tacoma Dome on Wednesday.
The ninth-seeded Chargers (21-7) – appearing at the state tournament for the first time since 2014 – advance to play No. 2 Gonzaga Prep (22-2) in the quarterfinals at 2 p.m. Thursday.
Battle Ground finished its season 18-10.
Cruz Medina scored 14 points and handed out seven assists, Moses Moore had 12 and Jeremy Banks finished with nine points and six assists for Kentridge.
The Chargers shot 51.6 percent from the field, hitting six of eight 3-pointers, in the first half to build a 40-23 halftime lead.
