Kentwood High boys basketball star Josh Smith, who went down with an apparent knee injury during Tuesday night’s 63-41 loss to Federal Way, will miss at least tomorrow night’s game against Auburn Riverside and maybe more, coach Michael Angelidis said Wednesday evening.
“We don’t know how long he will be out,” Angelidis said. “But he won’t play (Thursday).”
The Kentwood coach noted that the UCLA-bound Smith has a “20 percent” tear of the patellar tendon in his right knee.
“We’re expecting to hear back from the doctor about rehab,” Angelidis said. “I don’t think he will be out too long, but we’ll have to wait and see.”
Smith limped off the court in the fourth quarter on Tuesday with 5:49 in the fourth quarter. He went up to block a shot and landed awkwardly, then motioned to the bench to be pulled out of the game.
“When I fell down, I felt something crack,” Smith said Tuesday night.
Smith, the two time SPSL North MVP, averaged 24.5 points per game last year. In limited time Tuesday night, he scored 9 points, grabbed four rebounds and blocked one shot.
