The Auburn boys and Kent Meridian girls cross country teams won their first meets of the season on Sept. 12.
The Auburn boys narrowly outran Mount Rainier 27-28 and beat K-M 21-36. Mount Rainier defeated the Royals 21-35 in the South Puget Sound League dual meet at Game Farm Park.
In the girls race, Auburn topped Mount Rainier 24-31, but lost to the Royals, 27-30. The Royals girls beat the Rams 20-38.
Auburn senior Tyler Flannery took first with a time of 16 minutes, 59 seconds, while fellow senior Brennan Wallin placed third at 17:30. Sophomore Tyler Perrin placed seventh with a time of 18:42.
Auburn senior Anna deCarteret took second with a time of 20:41. Junior Kimberly Anderson placed fourth with a time of 22:14. Senior Anna Starr placed sixth, finishing at 22:37.
For the K-M boys, senior Edson Zaldivar took fourth with a time of 17:36. Junior Stewart Kunzleman took ninth, finishing at 19:12.
Junior Ruby Virk took third with a time of 22:08 for the K-M girls. Fellow junior Briann Funk took fifth with a time of 22:33. Senior Stephanie O’Hara placed seventh, crossing the finish line at 22:49. Junior Sara Maden placed eighth with a time of 22:51. Senior Jessie O’Hara placed ninth at 22:52.
ELSEWHERE: The Tahoma boys and girls won their first dual meets of the season against Auburn-Riverside and Kentridge. The Tahoma boys outran Auburn-Riverside and Kentridge 19-44. The Kentridge boys beat Auburn-Riverside 24-35. The Tahoma girls team beat Auburn-Riverside 17-44 and the Chargers 15-50. KR lost to Auburn-Riverside 20-35.Kentridge sophomore Kyra Kaiser placed 10th with a time of 21:38 in the girls race.Kentridge senior Sterling Bath took third with a time of 17:06 in the boys race.
