A cool, cloudy June morning didn’t slow down about 380 athletes who competed in the Lake Meridian Triathlon last Saturday.
The race featured three race lengths in both men and women divisions – sprint, super sprint and Olympic.
The sprint and super sprint races consisted of a 16.4-mile bike ride and 3.1-mile run, differing only in the swim distances – a quarter-mile for the super sprint and a half-mile for the sprint.
The Olympic course had a 1.5 kilometer (.93 mile) swim, a 40-kilometer (24.8-miles) bike ride and a 10-kilometer (6.2 mile) run.
David Vanbolt finished first overall in the men’s super sprint with a time of 1 hour, 5 minutes and 1 second. Philippe Bouttefroy took first in the sprint (1:14:20) and Nicholas Klatt won the Olympic course (2:05:53).
For the women, Maria Volk took first in the super sprint (1:32:40), Karla Bensen won the sprint (1:24:37) and Kambria Schumacher came out on top in the Olympic (2:21:30).
Another Lake Meridian Triathlon is set for Saturday, Aug. 13. This is the seventh year for the Lake Meridian Triathlon, which is organized by Raise the Bar.
