The Tri-City Americans defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 7-1 Tuesday night at the Toyota Center in Kennewick.
Tyler Schmidt scored a power-play goal at 3:30 of the first to give the Americans a 1-0 lead. Adam Hughesman and Jordan Messier had the assists.
Zach Yuen scored at 5:26 of the first to extend the Tri-City lead to 2-0 at 5:26 of the first. Hughesman and Brendan Shinnimin were credited with the assists.
The Americans went in front 3-0 at 10:42 of the first on a goal from David Conrad. Max Moline and Brock Sutherland had the assists.
Tri-City (25-12-1-1) made it a 4-0 lead at 13:49 of the first on Schmidt’s second goal of the night. Hughesman and Shinnimin assisted.
Tri-City outshot Seattle 14-7 in the first period.
The Americans went up 5-0 when Patrick Holland scored unassisted on a breakaway 29 seconds into the second period. Holland blocked a point shot which landed in the neutral zone to set up his breakaway.
Tri-City replaced Drew Owsley in net at the 13-minute mark of the second period with Chris Driedger. Owsley made 10 saves and got the win to improve his record to 22-11-1-1.
Burke Gallimore scored a power-play goal at 19:15 of the second period to get the T-Birds on the board. Marcel Noebels fed the puck to Ryan Button at the left point. Button put a shot on goal that rebounded right to Gallimore to the left of the goal. Gallimore snapped the puck over a lunging Driedger for his 23rd goal of the year. The assist by Button was his first point as a T-Bird after being acquired from the Prince Albert Raiders on Monday.
The Americans led in shots 35-15 after two periods.
Tri-City went in front 6-1 at 4:42 of the third period on a goal from Justin Feser. Holland had the only assist on the goal.
Feser scored a power-play goal at 8:05 of the third to give the Americans a 7-1 lead. Schmidt and Yuen assisted on the goal.
Tri-City outshot Seattle (17-17-4-4) 52-18 in the game.
Pickard made 45 saves on 52 shots and his record is now 17-15-3-4.
Driedger stopped 7 of 8 shots in his 27 minutes of action.
