Shirley "Jean" Meyers | Obituary

1925 – 2022

Jean Meyers passed away on September 26, surrounded by family and friends “singing her into heaven.” She was born in Seattle, the fifth and last child of Ruth Storms Kirchan and Louis KIrchan. Louis was killed in a car accident in 1930, which left Ruth to raise five children during the Depression. Jean attended Lake Washington High School and, when World War Two started, worked part-time at the Lake Washington Shipyard, where she also showed her athletic abilities, playing catcher for the Shipyard Gypsies against the Boeing Bomberettes.

After her graduation in 1943 she married Vic Meyers Jr. (1924-1981), who then headed to Europe as a pilot with the American liberation forces. After the war, they lived in various places along the west coast, had four children, and finally settled in Kent. Jean attended the Kent Alliance Church for years, teaching Sunday school and inspiring many with her faith and strength.

In the ‘80s and ‘90s she did nanny jobs in the Seattle/ Bellevue area. Jean was a handsome, strong-minded, loyal woman who taught her children compassion, hard work and, not least, a sense of humor. In her last years she attended Calvary Chapel South and could often be seen on Sunday mornings at the age of 97 walking the half mile to church in her pink coat. She will be remembered with love and gratitude and deeply missed.

She is survived by her four children: Patricia Eckloff (Lee), Judith Meyers (Robert Ericksen), Vic Meyers, III (Nadine) and James Meyers (Carolyn); plus six grand- children and eight greatgrandchildren. Special thanks to her caregivers in the last months, Mary and Bridget, and to her faithful friend Sandie Carr. Celebration of Life at Calvary Chapel South, 1340 W. Smith St., Kent. Friday, Nov. 4. 1 pm

Well done thou good and faithful servant, enter thou into the joy of thy lord…
