Joycelyn Cecelia Foss | Obituary

Joycelyn Cecelia Foss died of natural causes at age 91 on Tuesday, January 18, 2022. She was born in Fergus Falls, Minnesota to Herbert and Cecelia (Amell) Schumacher, the youngest of five children. The family moved to the Northwest in the 1940’s where she graduated from Bremerton High School and then worked in the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for several years. She married Lloyd Robert Foss in 1955 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Montesano. The newlyweds moved to Forks where Bob worked as a logger and their eldest daughter Joyce was born. After a brief return to Montesano and the birth of daughter, Catherine and son, Robert, the family moved to Kent in 1962 where Bob was employed at Boeing for the next 30 years.

Joycelyn was a devoted member of St. Philomena Parish in Des Moines and deeply committed to her faith. She was known for her beautiful singing voice and often entertained her friends with her lively harmonica skills. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Bob, and her siblings: Herbert, Donald, Clayton and Illeana. She is survived by her three children Joyce (Steve) McCombs of Delta Junction Alaska, Catherine Foss of Lake Stevens, Robert Foss of Seattle, grandson Dave McCombs (Tawnia) and great-grandson, Trek McCombs of Delta Junction.

The family is grateful to the staff at Valley View Adult Family Home in Kent for the excellent care and kind support given to Joycelyn for the past 14 years.

A rosary and funeral mass were held at St. John’s in Montesano on Monday, January 24 and burial followed at the Elma Catholic Cemetery near Satsop, Washington. Memorials may be made to St. John’s Altar Society, Box 3027, Elma, WA 98541. Arrangements provided by Harrison Family Mortuary in Aberdeen.
