JOANNE Y. DANIEL

JOANNE Y. DANIEL

Joanne Y. Daniel, born August 9, 1930 in Dayton, Washington, passed away on April 20, 2019 in the comfort of her own home in Bermuda Dunes, California at age 88. Joanne was predeceased by her loving husband, Dr. George T. Daniel. She is survived by their son, Eric Daniel and his wife, Ketmany; and their daughter, Kristie Lofurno.

She is also survived by their granddaughters, Joanna Douglas and her husband, David; and Danielle Hunter, and her fiancé Alex Barrett; as well as her brother, Delmer Criss and his wife, Carolyn; and her Sister-in-law, Colleen Criss.

“Jo” graduated from Dayton High School in 1948, where she met George as a teenager. They married in 1952 while attending Washington State University, where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education in 1953. Through her journeys, she achieved her Master’s Degree studying at San Jose State and University of Colorado. She worked at Stanford University as a librarian while George was completing his Master’s. She taught elementary school in Walla Walla, Ellensburg, Spokane and Auburn, Washington where she retired after 30 years of dedicated service.

Jo was an accomplished musician, playing the piano, clarinet, guitar and even ukulele. She was talented in baton, and was the majorette of the band. She loved a good parade! She passed her love for learning, music, and sports to all children. She never missed a recital or ball game, oftentimes the most inspirational at any event. After retiring to the Desert, she and George loved to travel, play golf, bike ride, garden and bird watch.

Joanne was proud of her family, and leaves many beautiful memories. She was a genuinely kindhearted, loving and sincere individual. She had the unique ability to find the best in everyone. Those that had the honor of knowing Jo were truly blessed.

There will be a memorial service honoring both Dr. George T. and Mrs. Joanne Y. Daniel July 29, 2019 at 2pm at The Kent United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in support of Saint Jude Children’s Hospital, or Kent United Methodist Church.
