BETTY ANNE GORDON-ANGUS

BETTY ANNE GORDON-ANGUS

Betty Anne Gordon-Angus passed away in her home on January 9, 2019 at the age of 81.

Betty was born on December 7, 1937 to Ernest and Gladys Wendt in Seattle, Washington. She graduated as Salutorian from Holy Family Catholic High School. While she spent much of her life in Seattle, she spent the last 20 years in Astoria, Oregon building a wonderful life with her husband Ed.

Betty was known by friends, family, and colleagues to be an active lover of life. She had many interests ranging from gardening, bowling, whale watching, and collecting antiques from the Pacific Northwest and beyond. She owned a race horse, and loved to travel. Betty was an avid fan of the Washington Huskies, and often visited Washington State University Cougar games. She was never afraid to speak her mind, and many in her family valued her insight.

Throughout her career, Betty was known for her dedication, innovative mindset, and personable approach to working with her customers and co-workers. Many of her younger co-workers said she was their mentor – always ready to help or teach.

Notably, Betty was one of the first women involved in the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks in the 1980s. Through the organization, she served as a social director of sorts to help with a wide variety of philanthropic causes. Betty, her then-companion George, and her grandson Robert also worked through the Elks as clowns – participating in community parades and often visiting hospitals to entertain sick children.

As the owner of BGs Antiques in Astoria, she was able to create a career out of what she loved – collecting and selling antiques, and bringing joy to her customers.

Betty always sought to help others wherever and whenever she could. Her friends and neighbors often commented on how generous and kind she was.

Betty is preceded in death by her brother, Thomas Wendt, her granddaughter, Krystal Walker and George Moon. Betty is survived by her husband, Edward Angus; daughters, Laurie Walker, Kathy Gordon (Mario) and Julie James (Basil); sister, Mary Lynn Wise; grandsons, Robert Gordon, Allen Stoller (Kayleigh) and Charles Gordon; and granddaughter, Maranda James. Betty had a special relationship with her niece, Aurora Price (Glenn), and nephews Aaron Wendt (Suzy) and Thomas Wendt (Jan). She was also loved by her grand and great nieces and nephews; Jonathon and Ethan Pryor (DeAnn), Erika and Charlotte Heeren (Jacob), Kelleen and Phoenix Brenner (Scott), Benjamin Schwartz, Noah Wendt, Thomas and Jan’s children Christopher and Coreena, as well as members of the Hendrix family.

Betty’s legacy will be continued through her family, who miss her greatly.

Betty will be laid to rest and memorialized by her family on April 27th, 2019 at 1:00pm at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 5041 35th Avenue NE, Seattle, Washington.
