Viola K. Johnson
Viola K. Johnson passed away peacefully at Franciscan Hospice in Tacoma, WA December 17, 2008.She was born to William and Olive McElwain at Garrison, ND February 24, 1917. She was married to her childhood sweetheart, Harold E. Johnson June 13, 1940 in Douglas, ND.She attended Minot State University and graduated in 1936 to become an elementary teacher. She taught in North Dakota for four years and did substitute teaching in the Kent School District after her marriage.Viola was a member of Panther Lake Community Church and was very involved with activities there. She was a person with numerous talents or pastimes which included golf, music (playing the organ), painting and entertaining friends. She was a lovable and generous person who loved life and encouraged others to do the same.She is survived by the following:Sons, Donald (and Johnie) Johnson, Auburn, WA; Terry (and Judy) Johnson, Mesa, AZ. Daughters, Julie (and Jeff) Barber, Kent, WA; Susan (and Neil Davis) McElwain, Charlston, SC. Sixteen grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, and sister Zona Vick, Minot, ND.Preceding her in death were sisters Mona Chandler, Rawlins, WY; Beulah Hill, Roseglen, ND; Dorothy Hill, Roseglen, ND and brother, Virn McElwain.A celebration of life will be held at Panther Lake Community Church January 10, 2009 at 11 AM.In lieu of flowers or gifts please send remembrances to Panther Lake Community Church at 10630 SE 204th St. Kent, WA 98031.
