Richard “King” Gerretson
Richard “King” Gerretson, 71, passed away September 11, 2010 peacefully at his home in Kent surrounded by his family following a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeannine, who passed away in 2004 after 42 years of marriage; his parents Douglas and Dorothy Gerretson, and his sister Suzanne Gerretson. He is survived by four children: Mary (Jeff) Quinn, Michael (Andrea) Gerretson, Julie (Gordon) Olson, Suzanne (Eddie) Gullace, a brother Charlie Gerretson (Denis Gerdes), two sister-in-laws, Jurrie Brandenburg (Larry), Jennifer (Charles) Boone, and nine grandchildren. He was born in Willmar, Minnesota, graduated Willmar High School, 1957, graduated University of Minnesota School of Dentistry, 1963. He moved to Kent, Washington with his wife and children in 1967 and practiced dentistry in Kent for 22 years. Retiring from dentistry in 1989, King began working with Draeger Real Estate in Kent until retiring in 2004. King served as a volunteer member of a Diversion Panel with the Partnership for Youth Justice in the King County Juvenile Court System for 25 years. He has been an active member of St James Episcopal Church in Kent since 1967. King enjoyed many activities, including photography, bridge, camping, fishing, and was always looking for a good road trip to take. He was known for his sense of humor and was making jokes until the end. A memorial service will be held Saturday September 18, 2010 at 2:00 pm at St James Episcopal Church, 24447 94th Ave S. Kent, Washington.
