Gretchen Stangle of Covington, WA, passed away April 8, 2020. She was 91.
She was born January 15, 1929, in Monongah, WV. After graduating high school,
she took a job with Owens Glass Company in Fairmont, WV, where she worked 5 years. Gretchen decided to join the Air Force in 1952 and was assigned to McChord AFB, Tacoma, WA. This is where she met SGT John Stangle who would become her husband for the next 48 years before his passing in 2001. As a military family they lived in England, California and Montana before leaving the military and building their home in Covington. Gretchen was a 20+ year volunteer at the Kent Senior Activity Center. Gretchen never met a stranger, loved to talk, sing, and had a great sense of humor. She is sur- vived by sons John Stangle Jr. of Daleville, AL, Mike Stangle of Calipatria, CA, daughter Julie Stangle of Tacoma, WA, brother Richard Huffman of Monongah, WV, and 2 grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
