November 6, 1930- August 13, 2023
Leon passed away Sunday morning at Valley Medical Center of natural causes. Born in Eagle Pass, Texas and residing in Washington state for over sixty years, he raised a beautiful family alongside his beloved wife Ruth (Cuca). Their marriage of 73 years bore 6 children, 18 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
Leon exemplified the hard working father and dedicated husband. Leon valued hard work and instilled that in his 6 children. He worked tirelessly to provide for his family, taking on many careers including US Department of the Interior, Stokly’s Van Camp, Port of Seattle, and Embassy Suites. Ruth was an inspiration to Leon. He loved her unconditionally and they dedicated themselves to raising their children. They are together now in paradise enjoying the fruits of their labor.
In his spare time Leon enjoyed many interests and hobbies. His love for sports was evident as he had each of his children involved in sports or activities. Ruth and Leon were constant spectators at their children’s and their grandchildren’s activities. They thrived in that environment. In addition to being a spectator, Leon also coached many youth and adult teams as well as played soccer himself. Leon was an avid bowler and he and Ruth dominated the bowling alleys on Tuesday nights. When Leon hit the dance floor with his beloved Cuca, others moved aside and cleared the floor, leaving this beautiful couple looking into each other’s eyes with love and admiration. What a sight to see! Leon loved the outdoors. He loved taking his family with him everywhere camping, fishing, hunting and on numerous family trips to Mexico, visiting relatives near and far. He once said “I want my children to see what I see!” He accomplished his dreams.
Loved ones left behind include his sons, Leon Martin (Debbie) Gutierrez and Edward James (Colleen, dec.) Gutierrez, daughters Maria Christina (Kasey Crooks, dec.) Gutierrez, Magdalena Maria St. Clair, Sandra Louise (Carlos) Gutierrez- DelaRosa, and Ruth Annette (Doug) Roth. 18 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter.
Services have already been held. Donations can be made in Leon’s name to Knights of Columbus – Kent Order.
