Hazel M. Wenham
Hazel M. Wenham, 88, passed away June 30, 2016 in Kent. Hazel was born in Lind, WA on June 14, 1928. Her parents were Robert L. and Florence M. Bonwell. She was one of 9 children.
Hazel began school in Omak, then moved to Port Orchard, and completed school at Kent High School graduating in 1947. Hazel was married June 14, 1947 to Kenneth Wenham at the Methodist Church in Kent. They had four children: son, Toby Wenham (Peggy) of Enumclaw; and daughters, Vicki Wenham of Kent, Kathy Jewell of Auburn, and Lori Fleck (Brian) of Lake Tapps. Hazel is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; brother Joe Bonwell of Bremerton; and sisters, Dorothy McCaughan (Leonard) of Kent and Pauline McCracken (Al) of Granite Quarry, NC. She was preceded by sisters, Pearl Armitage of Kansas, Margaret Moomaw of Omak, Helen Thompson of Tygh Valley, OR, and Peggy Brown of Kent; brother Edward Bonwell of Renton; and grandchildren Donnie and Stacey Jewell of Auburn.
Hazel worked for Murray’s Fine Fabrics in Kent and Johnny’s Food Center in Covington. When Hazel was not working she enjoyed many Mystery Trips with her sister Margaret. (Hazel didn’t know where she was going but always had a great time). She also traveled to Ireland and Canada.
She was a member of the Retail Clerks Union, and Seattle Children’s Hospital, Kent Guild. She was the first PTA president at Covington Elementary School. Hazel enjoyed playing Pinochle and Bunco, bowling, reading, gardening, baking cookies, making candy, and helping her children and friends.
Interment will be at Hillcrest Burial Park Monday, July 11th at 1:00pm with a reception following at Hazel’s home. In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made in Hazel’s name to Seattle Children’s Hospital or a charity of the donor’s choice. Please sign her online guestbook at www.edline-yahn.com
