Eric Robert Christian Reitan, age 84, passed away after battling aggressive Lymphoma on May 15, 2024. He was preceded in death by his soulmate, Carol Joan Reitan, parents Edmond and Rae Reitan, and his brother, Erlend “Buck” Reitan. Eric is survived by his children, Todd Reitan (Dawn) and Eric “Rick/Red” Reitan (Anita), his grandchildren, Noah and Logan Reitan, Jessie and Julia Reitan, his brother, Edmond “Butch” Reitan (Barbara) and his sister, Ellen Peterson (Terry). He was surrounded with family, and maintained his jovial sense of humor all the way to the end.
Eric was born in June of 1939, raised in Kent, WA, and graduated from Kent- Meridian High School in 1957. Except for a few short years, his life was lived primarily on Scenic Hill in Kent. It was while working at First National Bank he met the love of his life. On February 16, 1963 he married his “sweetie”, Carol Neumann…and their 60 year adventure began.
Eric/Carol, together with brother, Buck, they purchased Kent Floral in the mid-60’s. In tandem, Eric also found time to create a concrete business, where he made stepping stones and planters. Following in his parent’s footsteps, Eric became the local “historian” for Kent. His favorite pass-time, however, was being with family and being “Papa” to his four grandchildren.
As we mourn the loss of Eric, we also celebrate his remarkable life and the profound impact he had on us all. Eric was “a bright spark”, gracious host with a caring heart, passionate keeper of Kent history. He was always ready to generously give a helping hand, quip a witty comment, or offer you some bounty from his yard. May he rest in peace with Carol – together forever.
Please come remember and honor Eric at a Celebration of Life Open House at Kent Senior Center (600 E Smith St, Kent, WA 98030), July 28th from 1-4:00 pm. Remembrances in Eric’s name can be made to Kent Historical Society.
Eric will be greatly missed because he was greatly loved.
