Edward J. Brown
Edward J. Brown, Age 93, a lifetime resident of Kent, passed away on July 5, 2009.Ed was born in Canada on March 31, 1916, moving to Kent in 1920 with his parents Robert and Agnes Brown. In his youth, he worked on the chicken farms and in the lettuce sheds and canneries in Kent, later driving cab for local residents, and then working for Boeing in plant maintenance until he retired in 1978. Ed lived on the East Hill of Kent for 88 years in his home right next door to the house his parents built and he grew up in. He enjoyed reminiscing about the “old” days, meeting friends at the donut shop for coffee in the mornings, and was a frequent visitor at the Kent Senior Center. He was one of the founders of the Greater Kent Historical Society and the Kent Old Timers group. In 1999, he was the Kent Cornucopia Old Timer King, along with Queen Evelyn Thornton.Ed was preceded in death by his wife Peggy in 1996 and his brother Robert (Bob) Brown in 2005. He is survived by his children Ed, Barbara, Dorothy Jean, Alex, Debbie and 9 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. A graveside service will be held Saturday, July 11 at 10:00 a.m. at Hillcrest Burial Park in Kent. Services have been arranged by Edline-Yahn & Covington Funeral Chapel in Kent.
