Alice M. Jones
Alice M. Jones (formerly Cordry), age 85, of Appleton, Wisconsin, passed away at her home on Saturday, February 4, 2012. Alice was born on January 4, 1927, in Monroe, Louisiana, to the late Jasper Earl and Katie (Freeman) Jones. She was a life long educator, teaching in schools throughout this country and abroad. She earned her Masters in Education from Syracuse University in 1951. Several times she was honored as Teacher of the Year and also as 4-H Leader of the Year in Louisiana. She enjoyed reading, traveling, acting in local theater groups, and gardening. She loved her family, especially the time she spent with her grandchildren. She was a dedicated volunteer at a number of women’s shelters and literacy groups. Survivors include her children, Sharon (Bob) Krohne, Excelsior Springs, Missouri; Julia Singer, Seattle; Christopher (Gayle Paul) St. John, San Francisco; and Catherine (Todd) McKenzie, Appleton, Wisconsin; her grandchildren, Vicki (Dave) Hillen, Josh (Angela) Bright, Mason Berg, Alycia Berg, Amber McKenzie and Laurel McKenzie; her great grandchildren, Caleb Hillen, Sidnee Hillen, Haylee Hillen, Alyssa Hillen, Jacob Bright and Jameson Bright; and her sister, Colleen (John) Wackerl. She is further survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Alice was preceded in death by her brother, Jasper Earl Jones, Jr. Memorial services will be at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 7, 2012, at WICHMANN FUNERAL HOME, Appleton, with Rev. Roger Bertschausen officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. until the time of services.
