Wrong-way crash on I-405 kills Renton woman and Bellevue man

Head-on collision early Saturday, Sept. 16 near Bothell

A 48-year-old Renton woman and 32-year-old Bellevue man died Sept. 16 in a two-vehicle traffic collision on Interstate 405 near Bothell and Woodinville.

According to a news release from the Washington State Patrol, the collision resulted from the Renton woman driving the wrong way.

According to the news release, the Renton woman struck the front driver’s side of the Bellevue man’s vehicle traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of I-405, north of Northeast 160th Street.

Both vehicles arrived at a stop in the fifth lane, with the collision resulting in 5 hours and 14 minutes of roadway blockages. The collision occurred at approximately 2:06 a.m.

First responders transported a 30-year-old Seattle woman, a passenger of the Bellevue man’s vehicle, to Harborview Medical Center for injuries suffered in the collision, according to the news release.

First responders pronounced the 48-year-old woman and 32-year-old man deceased at the scene.
