Federal Way Police are investigating a homicide after a 23-year-old man was fatally shot on June 28.

Just after midnight on Wednesday morning, officers responded to reports of a shooting at the Crestview West Apartments (27914 Pacific Hwy S.). Officers found an unresponsive man with an apparent gunshot wound lying in the parking lot, according to Cdmr. Kurt Schwan of the Federal Way Police Department.

While lifesaving efforts were attempted, the man died at the scene, Schwan said.

As of June 28, police do not have any suspect information and do not know details about what led up to the shooting.

Detectives and the department’s Major Crime Scene Team responded to assist with the investigation. Anyone with information can call Federal Way police at 253-835-2121.

This is Federal Way’s seventh homicide investigation in which nine people have died so far in 2023, according to the Federal Way Community Crime Map maintained by the department and previous reports from the Federal Way Mirror newspaper.

Federal Way recorded eight homicides in 2022, 14 in 2021, seven in 2020 and five in 2019.
