The Auburn Police Department has requested the public’s help in identifying a suspect accused of rape.

According to the department’s social media, a stranger walked into an apartment complex on Lea Hill at about 1 p.m. on June 1 and reportedly held a knife to the throat of a woman prior to dragging her to the ground and sexually assaulting her. The suspect ran back into a wooded area behind the complex following the incident.

The victim described the suspect as a white man in his 20s to 30s and approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall with a medium build with dark brown scraggly hair, and acne on his face, according to the Auburn Police Department. The suspect wore a dirty white gaiter mask, a dirty black hoodie with holes on the sleeves and dirty jeans.

According to the department, the woman believed the suspect was a homeless man because of his appearance.

The department provided a facial composite sketch of the suspect.
