Young Renton girl is suspect in series of burglaries and thefts

In one incident, the girl, described as 12 to 14 years old, successfully stole a vehicle.

Renton Police say an unidentified juvenile girl serves as the suspect in a recent series of theft and burglary incidents — including vehicle thefts — in November on the south end of Renton.

According to the department, the girl has approached three separate homes between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. at Benson Condos, 1425 South Puget Drive, under the pretense of needing to charge her phone so she can call someone for a ride.

In each incident, the girl shared a story that she was visiting with a friend when they got into an argument, resulting in her being kicked out of the house, according to the department.

In two incidents, two homeowners allowed the girl entry into their home. The girl proceeded to distract the homeowners with an “errand” prior to stealing their vehicle keys and personal belongings, according to the department.

In one incident, the girl successfully stole a vehicle. She failed in another incident as a result of the vehicle being a manual transmission.

In a third incident, the homeowner declined the girl entry, instead providing her a charging device to use.

According to the department, the girl appeared to have also approached two homes in the 10700 block of SE 165th Street. One homeowner allowed the girl inside where the suspect then stole the victim’s vehicle keys and drove away with the homeowner’s car.

The department described the suspect as a 12-to 14-year-old Black juvenile girl, approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall, with a thin build, shoulder length curly-frizzy black hair and long fingernails.
