State Patrol arrests Auburn man for I-5 vehicular homicide

Impairment is suspected in Dec 1 crash near King County-Pierce County line

An Auburn man was arrested for investigation of vehicular homicide due to suspected impairment following an Interstate 5 collision that left one man dead.

At 11:40 p.m. Dec. 1, there was a serious collision in which a Ford Mustang near the King County-Pierce County line was traveling at a high rate of speed, then struck a Toyota Camry, resulting in the Camry’s occupant’s death, according to the Washington State Patrol.

According to the King County Medical Examiner’s Office, the man who died was Ryan Patrick Golden, 35. Washington State Patrol reports said he was from Goshen, Indiana.

According to state patrol, while the Mustang was traveling southbound on I-5 in lane three and the Camry was traveling southbound in lane three, the Mustang collided with the back of the Camry, causing both vehicles to spin out. Following the collision, the Camry came to rest in lanes two and three, facing northeast, and the Mustang came to rest about 500 feet ahead of the scene in lane one, causing the roadway to be closed for about four hours and 37 minutes.

According to the King County Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention jail roster, as of Dec. 3, the man being investigated for vehicular homicide was in custody at the Maleng Regional Justice Center on $25,000 bail. He has yet to be formally charged in King County Superior Court. Another man in the Mustang was referred for obstruction charges.

The state patrol reports that this collision was one of three in King County or near King County within 24 hours in which impairment was suspected.
