Diversity in Law Enforcement Career workshop set by police agencies

Six South King County police departments partner to attract more diverse workforce

Six South King County police agencies have partnered to host their first Diversity in Law Enforcement Career workshop on Saturday, Nov. 2 in Renton.

“This free workshop aims to address the real and perceived barriers of those seeking a career in law enforcement and provide strategies to successfully navigate the hiring process,” according to a statement from the police agencies of Renton, Des Moines, Federal Way, Kent, Tukwila and the Port of Seattle.

The workshop will run from 8:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. It is open to anyone 18 years or older.

“We are committed to recruiting participants who reflect the diversity of South King County, such as people who identify as Black, Indigenous, or people of color, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, women, bilingual individuals and those with no prior law enforcement experience,” according to an agency statement.

Workshop participants will begin the day with various guest speakers and then will rotate through four breakout sessions.

• Oral Board interview

• Benefits of the profession

• Background investigations

• Written & physical testing

• Training and more

Workshop schedule:

• Check-in & continental breakfast – 8:15 a.m.

• Workshop begins – 9 a.m.

• Lunch – 12:30 p.m.

• Workshop ends – 3:30 p.m.
